There’s a moment at the end of the year where we found that FOUR big reasons for celebration had shown up in our space. They were Christmas, THREE birthdays, Chinese New Year, and then New Years. Why wouldn’t we jumble those all together and have a NewBirthMas Day Time celebration extravaganza spectacular? Come on people, there’s an easy button! The most magnificent all-in-one experience was TO. BE. HAD. so….. we started by making the invitation.

Okay the party is real now, and we invited at least 20 people we knew in the area. We also attempted to invite people really far away, you know, just in case they want to drive half a day to warm weather to experience the party of parties. Don’t wanna leave anyone out. 😉
Preparations are in Order
Here at the Gypsy Caravan, experience is everything, so we do everything we can to create space for a splendiferous experience to be had by every one. This means there were details that deserved to be addressed. Michael built a sound proof box for the generator so we could have lights, music, and heat inside the camper, without the loud running noise overpowering our mingling. He put up the Junk Tipi with assistance from a dear friend, Jared. We invited a lot of people so we thought it good to have space options. He dispersed my awesome Gypsy hand painted signs far and wide around our campsite, in case we had wanderers who would likely run into them, you know, in the event of their wandering. He also ensured that all the lights would be in working order for the party, as ambiance is essential.
We discussed food and beverage options that we could provide. We had all different kinds of dry beans, so we planned to throw a big bean dip together then all we had to buy was chips… and small appetizer foods (celery, carrots, cheese). Easy to prepare, cheap to buy. We also decided that we would be contributing one bottle of rum, a box of wine, 12 different craft beers and apple cider.
We want you to be warm.
About a week till the party of parties, a couple things came up. One being that the location of camp was up high therefore we were experiencing cold winds. Two being that we wanted to connect with our invitees to ensure they knew we are SERIOUS about this party…. The solution? Make a video and send it to everyone.
It would serve to have a big fire…. Wouldn’t it?
Well, the high desert doesn’t quiet have a selection of dead wood we would normally collect to burn….
After scouting around the towns of La Verkin And Hurricane we discovered an active framing project on Christmas Day. The gentlemen working there generously outflowed their scrap wood to us, and even cut it up into manageable sizes we could fit in the back of my truck. AND they said they’d make us a pile to come back for. What a blessing. I don’t believe it occurred to them that it was a holiday. Seeing how I wished them a merry Christmas and they all seemed quite surprised. It opens my eyes to the unique ways people live their lives. I thought Christmas was a big deal to everyone in America but there are some people here who choose out of that game. I respect that.
We drove our abundance of wood to camp, set up a saw horse and I began to chop it up into smaller pieces. I love the feeling of tearing through wood with a high powered saw… it’s relaxing. Although It felt like it was never ending, I enjoyed the 2 days it took to cut it up and organize it. I made a nice pile stacked to the edge of camp. Not in the way nor difficult to get to. We are set for success. We have so much wood.
Liquor run
Springdale is home to the liquor store nearest camp and I had never been. It didn’t take us long to choose into that experience given this information. We were pleasantly surprised by the amazingly detailed Christmas lights there were set up EVERYWHERE. It was the most beautiful thing that we ever did saw. Every square inch was lit and every square inch looked classy! My favorite thing about Christmas time is the lights, what a special treat it was to visit. And a blessing it was that the lights were still up a couple of days after Christmas. Thank you Springdale.
Okay I know that the previous paragraph has got to be difficult to beat but I’m telling you, the best part of our night was our way back to camp. I know what you’re thinking…. How?
Well, as we turn off the highway onto the dirt road that leads to camp, here in front of us is a van, turning around and parking for the night. Yeah we are definitely talking to this person, we know they are up-they just turned off their headlights. You cannot hide from Gypsies. Turns out this guy called Jesse is in town doing flooring, he’s got a like energy of a beautiful Gypsy vibe and he’s going to be around for NewBirthMas Day Time Celebration Extravaganza! Why is this better you ask? Because connections are priceless.
NewBirthMas Day is upon us!
Everything fell together perfectly. We spent all day at a steady pace getting ready. We made our food, cleaned house, enriched the space with party vibe, and tied up loose ends. Right as we come to completion people start trickling in…
A toast deserves to be made, thank you all for coming to our NewBirthMas day time celebration.
Did you guys really have a party? Your pictures and videos don’t show any people around, how do we know you’re not lying about this whole thing?
You don’t.
